What is at risk

A non-profit runs on trust. One breach of donor data can cost you the thing that funds the mission.

Attackers target non-profits precisely because they hold valuable donor and payment data, often with under-resourced IT and volunteers coming and going. A breach does not just leak data - it breaks donor confidence, threatens grant compliance, and pulls money and attention away from the work. These are the exposures we see most in the sector.

  • Donor records and payment details stored across spreadsheets, inboxes, and free tools with no real access control.
  • Phishing and fake-invoice scams aimed at finance staff and small teams who are stretched thin.
  • Volunteers and short-term staff keeping login access long after they have moved on.
  • Donation pages and payment flows that are not properly secured, putting card data and donor trust at risk.
  • Grant and regulatory requirements around data protection that the organization cannot actually evidence.
  • No backups or recovery plan, so a ransomware hit or lost laptop can erase years of program records.

How we secure the mission

Right-sized security that fits a real non-profit budget.

We start from the free and discounted tools you already qualify for, then add only the controls that genuinely reduce risk - no enterprise bloat.

Protected donor data

Get donor and payment records out of loose spreadsheets and inboxes into an access-controlled, encrypted system, so only the right people can reach sensitive data.

Secure donations and payments

Properly configured payment processing and donation pages so card data is handled by trusted, compliant providers - not stored on your own systems.

Volunteer and staff access control

Simple onboarding and offboarding so access is granted by role and removed the day someone leaves - no orphaned logins.

Phishing and fraud defense

Email filtering, MFA, and short, practical training so a fake-invoice or fake-CEO email does not drain a budget you cannot spare.

Grant and compliance evidence

Data-protection controls and documentation (DPDP in India, GDPR for global donors) you can actually show a grantor or regulator when asked.

Backup and recovery

Tested backups of program data, donor records, and email so a lost device or ransomware attack is an inconvenience, not a catastrophe.

Non-profit IT and security FAQ

We have almost no IT budget. Can you still help?
Yes - that is the point. We design around the free and discounted software you qualify for through TechSoup and provider grant programs, apply our non-profit discount, and prioritize only the controls that genuinely reduce risk. The goal is the cheapest honest path to a secure setup.
How do we keep donor data safe without expensive systems?
Most of the risk comes from data sitting in spreadsheets, free inboxes, and personal drives. Moving it into an access-controlled, encrypted system - often using tools you already get at no or low cost - removes the biggest exposure without a big bill.
Is it safe to take donations online?
Yes, when payments run through trusted, compliant processors rather than being stored on your own systems. We configure your donation pages and payment flow so card data never lands on your servers, which protects both donors and you.
Volunteers come and go constantly. How do we manage access?
We set up role-based access with simple onboarding and offboarding, so a volunteer gets exactly the access they need and loses all of it the day they leave - no forgotten logins lingering for months.
Our grants require data-protection compliance. Can you help us meet that?
We put the technical controls - access control, encryption, backups, logging - in place and document them so you can evidence compliance with DPDP (India) or GDPR (global donors) to grantors and regulators. We are not your lawyers, but we make the IT side defensible.
What if we get hit by ransomware or lose a laptop?
With the tested backups we set up, you restore program data, donor records, and email and keep operating - no ransom, no permanent loss. Without backups, a single incident can erase years of work, which is why recovery is part of every engagement.
